Overview
'Midnight Thicket' puts the player in the role of a forest creature foraging for dinner after humans fell asleep. The dark, calm forest creates a soothing atmosphere, but dialogue suggests an environmental message, an undercurrent of conflict and limited resources.
Design
'Midnight Thicket' uses Bitsy's minimalist pixel art to represent a forest at night. Rendered in a soft, dark-and-light green monochrome palette, the game depicts a soothing landscape with animals, grass, a lake, mountains, trees and the sky.
Roles
'Midnight Thicket' was created as a solo project, with all development roles handled by me:
- Game Creator & Designer: Designed the concept, mechanics, and narrative flow.
- Art Director & Illustrator: Illustrated all in-game assets in Bitsy. You can read more about the illustrations here.
- Programmer: The game's short, simple code was created in Bitsy.
- Writer: Wrote the short poem.
- Game Tester: Personally tested the game to ensure clarity, pacing, and consistency in tone and visuals.
