OVERVIEW
'Living Beeings: Pollination Adventure' is a collaborative board game created by André Almo and Maíra Amaral.
Set in the vibrant world of pollinators, this innovative board game was designed to enhance environmental education. By simulating a simple version of a real-world ecosystem, 1-4 players gain knowledge in pollinator conservation, assuming the roles of helpers for busy bees, working together to collect precious flower tokens! Players become protagonists of change to improve the pollination in their gardens, assisting bees in their daily pollination adventure.
This strategic game promotes teamwork, critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaborative skills while fostering eco-awareness. It promotes a deeper understanding of ecological interdependence with a focus on pollinators and their vital role in sustaining life and supporting healthy ecosystems.
The 'Living Beeings' game was originally developed as part of the Irish Museum of Modern Art's 2024 Earth Rising Festival. It brought sustainability and fun together and was a hit among players of all ages!
ROLES
I worked as an art director, illustrator, writer and game tester for 'Living Beeings'.
Art Director:
I crafted the game's overall aesthetic, ensuring a visually pleasing and engaging experience.
I developed and maintained a comprehensive style guide, dictating color palettes, typography, and visual language.
I worked closely with Maíra Amaral, the lead game designer, to translate the game's core concepts into compelling visuals.
Illustrator:
I brought the game's ecosystem to life through charming illustrations of flowers, trees, bees, and more.
I used illustrations to convey the game's narrative and enhance the player experience.
Writer:
I developed the game's narrative, presented through its rulebook and cards.
I wrote clear and concise rules, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable gameplay experience.
I incorporated educational elements into the game, making it a fun and informative learning experience.
Game Tester:
I rigorously tested the game to identify and resolve any issues that impacted gameplay and player experience.
I provided feedback on gameplay mechanics, pacing, flow, and overall player experience.
I helped fine-tune the game's difficulty to ensure a balanced and rewarding experience.
